Steps and conditions of acquiring US citizenship through naturalisation

Drozdova & Partners Law Firm assisted a long-term US resident to acquire the citizenship of the country through naturalisation.

Drozdova & Partners Law Firm director and advocate Ms Olena Drozdova provided legal advice on the preparation and submission of documents.

‘Naturalisation is a legal procedure, through which permanent US citizens may become citizens of the country,’ the lawyer explained. ‘To use this procedure, a foreign national should legally and continuously reside in the US for at least five years.’

The expert reminded that a citizenship applicant should continuously reside and stay physically present in the United States for five or three years depending on their status condition. Physical presence relates to an individual’s stay in the United States for at least two and half of the five-year period or one year and half of the three-year period respectively. The applicant should also be able to read and write English and show their commitment to the fundamental principles of the US Constitution and their loyalty to the United States.

Ms Drozdova also touched on key steps in the acquisition of citizenship: filing an application; criminal records check; interview; and oath of fealty to the US. To find out more, please follow this link.
